I have been busy getting ready to take part in an exhibition that is in Preston from the 19th March. The exhibition is a retropsective showcasing past winners of the Tom Bockroyd Award. This is awarded to a student studying Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire, part of the award includes a £500 cash prize. I was the winner of this award back in the final year of my Fine Art BA (Hons).
I will now fill you in on what I believe is a lovely story behind this award. Tom Bockroyd, like myself, studied at UCLan, by all accounts by staff and peers he was a talented and likeable student and young man. In a tragic climbing accident Tom died. As a legacy to the memory of Tom his family decided to start up the award and have halped numerous young artists in their emerging creative careers. Through supporting this award the Bockroyds have enable young creative students to follow a similar dream to their son. A fitting way to rememeber Tom :)
Here is my contribution to the exhibition, ill talk more about the concepts and themes behind my work in my upcoming posts.
